CFRP products (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics)
In 2009, TSUDAKOMA Corp. started developing and selling equipment for processing CFRP Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics, a cutting-edge material. We have contributed to the production and R&D of CFRP parts in the market especially for the aerospace and automobile industries.
CFRP Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics are generally known as strong and lightweight. Designing parts by utilizing the property of anisotropy not present in metallic materials discovers the possibility of TSUDAKOMA’s machines achieving higher performance than the existing ones.
CFRP tension roll
To prevent warp tension strain resulting from the shedding motion during weaving, the let-off tension roll mostly performs easing motion. For accurate easing operation, it is significant that the tension roll moves in linear response to shedding motion and it does not move too much due to inertia. It is also important that the tension roll does not distort due to the warp tension or its own weight.
Lightweight and strong material is suitable for the tension roll. In the CFRP tension roll, rigidity is increased by about 5% while weight is decreased by about 50%, compared with our existing metal tension roll.
The lightweight feature accurately responds to the requirements of easing motion while eliminating distortion due to its strength.
The CFRP tension roll is particularly effective for less elastic yarns (the warp itself can’t absorb its strain resulting from the shedding motion) and for yarns for which excessive tension is not desired (fine yarns).
Its lightweight and strength reduces the weight due to the tension roll’s length, allowing an advantage for wide fabric weaving.
In cases where the warp tension can not be decreased enough (because of the metal roll’s weight, the set tension required for easing motion is too high), causing lots of fluff on the warp, replacing the metal roll with the CFRP roll makes weaving easier and faster.
CFRP bobbin holder
The planetary leno selvage device for a loom, especially for a jet loom, rotates at extremely high speed. The device can’t avoid vibration transmitted from the loom when the device is mechanically driven. Because of high speed operation and vibration, the bobbin holder is always exposed to cracking.
One measure against it is to drive the planetary leno device by electric motor. Another measure is to increase durability by manufacturing high-speed swinging bobbin holders with lightweight and strong materials.
TSUDAKOMA’s CFRP bobbin holder achieves weight reduction by about 40% and the durability for ultra-high speed operation is 10 times longer, compared with our metal bobbin holder.
CFRP main shaft
Since the CFRP main shaft is stronger than a steel main shaft, it can rotate at an extremely high rate without breaking. The CFRP main shaft is very useful for an ultra-high speed loom. In a wide loom, the middle supporter in the lateral center section is unnecessary, enabling reductions in lubrication points and maintenance.
